Subject: What would you like to see most in minix?

Hello everybody out there using minix -

I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won’t be big and
professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing
since april, and is starting to get ready. I’d like any feedback on
things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat
(same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons)
among other things).

I’ve currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work.This implies that I’ll get something practical within a few months, andI’d like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestionsare welcome, but I won’t promise I’ll implement them :-)

PS. Yes – it’s free of any minix code, and it has a multi-threaded fs.
It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never
will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that’s all I have :-( .

    而且当初如果BSD没有官司缠身，也不会有现在的Linux了。

    BSD和Linux完全走的两条不同的路子, License和开发模式。事实已经证明GPL和集市开发更有生命力，Linux的胜利靠的不是技术上的优势。不过GPL3有点过于极端了。

    喝点小酒就大谈自己奋斗史的男人是不成熟的，俺今天也喝了点小酒，回忆一下自己的Linux用户史。
    最早接触到的Linux发行版是slackware，那是俺是一个机房管理员，俺在slackware上装了一个叫做《新东方故事》的文字MUD游戏，还有两个小兄弟给俺编地图，编游戏（拱猪），编人物（孙悟空），交换条件是免费上机，由此，俺的机房生意非常火爆，再后来，全校机房的生意也火爆，在后来，有些同学因为打这个游戏太过痴迷，挂科、降级了，俺觉得游戏不是好事情，就关掉了。
    slackware安装和配置都比较麻烦，但是他能让你学到更多的东西，因为你必须他启动过程是什么样的，你才会知道如何配置IP地址，如何让一个程序开机就运行，等等。
    后来出现了RedHat，俺感觉从来没有见过这么酷Linux，以后就主要用RedHat了。

    俺世纪之交的时候在自己PC上玩Redhat，貌似抢宿舍楼里的IP还是抢不过FreeBSD，但比windows 2000要好。
